Welcome to Austin, the Capital of Texas! We have a comfortable population of just under 2 million who reside in the Austin/Round Rock/San Marcos area and around 800,000 in Austin proper. In 2010 Austin was ranked the #1 Best City for the Next Decade by Kiplinger and #1 Best City for Jobs in 2009 by Forbes magazine. Austin is the "Greenest City in America" according to MSN and US News and World Report ranked Austin #3 as the Best Place to Live in 2009. A major hub of the high tech industry, Austin is a rapidly growing city. Some of the major employers in the area include: Dell, IBM, 3M, Apple, Freescale, Hewlett-Packard, Google, AMD, Applied Materials, Cisco Systems, EBay, National Instruments, Sun Microsystems, Samsung, St. David's Healthcare and Seton Family of Hospitals.

Well known for it's music scene, Austin is considered "The Live Music Capital of the World" Austin boasts the most music venues (per capita) in the U.S.
Austin is full of fun things to do. Music, culture, art and eccentricity are all a part of our colorful festivals, some of them famous including SXSW, and Austin City Limits. 6th street is the center of the nightlife scene in Austin containing clubs, bars and music of all kinds.

Austin's public bus transportation is provided by Capital Metro which also opened a new light rail line in 2010. Serving downtown Austin, East Austin, North Central Austin, Northwest Austin, and Leander, there are plans in the works for additional routes to Round Rock and Manor.
